A £200 bonus with 40x wagering doesn't mean £200. Put the numbers in and see what you'd actually have to stake before any of it could be withdrawn.
What the number means
Wagering (sometimes called playthrough) is the amount you must stake before bonus winnings can be withdrawn. It is not the amount you must lose, and it isn't money you need in your account — the same £10 can be staked many times over as it cycles through wins and losses. But the higher the requirement, the more chances the house edge has to work, and the less likely you are to see any of it.
The details that catch people out
- Whether the deposit is included. "40x bonus" and "40x deposit + bonus" on a £10/£50 offer differ by £400 of required stakes.
- Game contribution. Table and live games often count for a fraction, so playing them can multiply the real requirement several times over.
- Maximum bet while wagering. Many terms cap stakes at around £5 during wagering, and breaching it can void the bonus entirely.
- Expiry. A 7-day window on a large requirement can be arithmetically impossible at sensible stakes. Work out the daily stake before you opt in.
- Maximum withdrawal. Spin winnings are often capped regardless of what you win.
